MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University men's soccer player Pat Carroll was named a high school All-American by Soccer America today.
Carroll played high school soccer in Virginia where soccer is a spring sport and is the reason why the announcement follows his freshman year of college.
Carroll was a standout defender for West Springfield High where he helped his team earn a national ranking as high as second. The Springfield, Va., native won two state championships at West Springfield while there.
This year for the Mountaineers, Carroll started 17 of 20 matches helping to anchor a defense that allowed only 17 goals in 20 matches. Carroll and the defense tallied eight shutouts in 2004.
