MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team concludes its regular season against Iowa State on Sunday, April 13, at 11 a.m., at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
“It is our last match of the season, and it is time for us to have everything come together that we have learned throughout the spring semester,” says coach Miha Lisac. “I think that we will have a battle with Iowa State. We are ready and prepared for this weekend, and are looking to put some of our lessons into play for our first Big 12 win.”
The Mountaineers (3-16, 0-8 Big 12) come off a pair of conference losses at then-No. 18 Oklahoma and then-No. 22 Oklahoma State. The duo of sophomore Hailey Barrett
and junior Ikttesh Chahal
snapped its losing skid with an 8-7 (5) victory over the Cowgirls’ Carla Tur Mari and Maria Alvarez. Freshmen Kaja Mrgole
and Oana Manole
lead the team in singles, amassing seven victories apiece. The two have also teamed up to lead the squad with six wins in doubles play.
The Cyclones enter the contest 8-13 this season and 0-8 in the Big 12. Iowa State has not registered a team victory since February 28, when the Cyclones downed Bradley and South Dakota. Last weekend, Iowa State suffered a 7-0 loss to the Sooners, and a 6-1 defeat to Oklahoma State.
