MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team will begin its spring season at the KiVA Collegiate Tournament in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, March 29.
The Mountaineers have four matches slated for Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
“Having a strong work ethic is a staple of our volleyball program at WVU,” says coach Jill Kramer. “Our team has been working hard for the past three months and is ready to have some different players on the other side of the net to compete against.”
West Virginia will face Morehead State to start the day, Ohio State at 10 a.m., Illinois State at 1 p.m. and UT Martin at 2 p.m.
WVU faced Morehead State last season, earning a 3-1 victory over the Eagles in September. Morehead State went on to post a 27-8 overall record, including its second appearance in the NCAA tournament in program history.
West Virginia returns 10 players, including all six starters plus its libero from the 2013 team that recorded the first 20-win season in the program since 1992.
“We are very focused on how we consistently behave throughout each set that we play in the spring,” Kramer says. “We will play many different lineups and give some players the opportunity to play in different positions than they played last fall.”
Kramer is in her fourth year at the helm, and recorded her 50th career win in the Mountaineers’ season finale victory over Buffalo on Nov. 30.
