No. 3 Rifle Successful at Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  – The No. 3-ranked West Virginia University rifle team shot a season-high 4710 at Murray State’s Withrow Invitational, today, in Murray, Ky.
The Mountaineers (7-0, 5-0 GARC) shot 2378 in air rifle, a season high and just three shots short of their all-time record. They also shot a smallbore total of 2332, their second-highest score of the season.
In air rifle, junior Maren Prediger paced the Mountaineers with a 598 score, one short of her season and career high.
Junior Ziva Dvorsak (597), sophomore Garrett Spurgeon (594) and junior Taylor Ciotola (590) all shot season highs in the gun. Dvorsak and Spurgeon’s scores also were career highs.
Prediger, Spurgeon, Dvorsak, and juniors Meelis Kiisk (589) and Thomas Kyanko (585) comprised the Mountaineer counting squad.
Spurgeon paced the smallbore team, shooting 587 for the second consecutive week and matching his season high. Today was the fifth time that Spurgeon has lead WVU in the gun this season.
Dvorsak shot 584 in her second match as a Mountaineer, while Kiisk scored 583.
Kyanko and Prediger shot 578 and 572, respectively. 
Team and individual standings for the invitational will be available early next week.
The Mountaineers continue on the road tomorrow and compete against Memphis (5-6, 2-2 GARC).
