MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Oliver Luck today announced the schedule for the upcoming 2013 women’s soccer season.

“Nikki (Izzo-Brown) has once again challenged her team with a very demanding schedule against some of the nation’s top teams,” says Luck. “I look forward to seeing women’s soccer defend its Big 12 Championship.”

Seven opponents on this year’s slate appeared in the 2012 NCAA tournament – Baylor, Central Michigan, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Penn State and Texas Tech.

“The 2013 schedule is challenging, but one that we are excited about," says coach Izzo-Brown, the 2012 Big 12 Coach of the Year. “Our non-conference opponents are highlighted by last year’s national finalists in North Carolina and Penn State. And our conference schedule includes four home games and four road trips to Big 12 schools.”

West Virginia will play 10 matches this fall at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, in addition to an exhibition match against Rutgers on Aug. 13.

The Mountaineers will take to the road for eight contests, including the season opener on Aug. 23 at Penn State – last year’s national runner-up. WVU also will square off against Syracuse on Aug. 25 to close out the weekend as part of the Penn State Invitational.

WVU’s home opener is scheduled for Aug. 30 against Central Michigan.

West Virginia travels to Durham, N.C., on Sept. 6-8 to take part in the Duke Nike Classic. WVU will face the Blue Devils Friday, followed by a match against reigning national champion North Carolina on Sunday. UCLA is the tournament’s fourth team, making it one of the most challenging tournaments of the season.

The month of September features five home matches against Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky, Richmond and Wright State.

Big 12 Conference play begins Sept. 27 at Oklahoma State. WVU’s conference road matches include Baylor, Oklahoma and the regular season finale at Texas Tech.

The Mountaineers play host to Texas on Oct. 4, followed by three-consecutive home matches versus Iowa State, TCU and Kansas.

The 2013 Big 12 Soccer Championship begins with quarterfinal play on Nov. 6. Big 12 semifinals and finals will take place on Nov. 8 and 10. All matches will be played at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., home of Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer.
