MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s combined varsity athletic teams have a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) score of 83 percent, according to data released today by the NCAA.

WVU’s average GSR score of 83 percent is its highest since the NCAA began collecting GSR data with the entering freshmen class of 1995. WVU’s score is up three points from last year’s average and 13 points from three years ago. WVU’s score of 83 is higher than the NCAA’s overall four-year GSR average score of 81. The most recent Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2002-03 through 2005-06.

The Graduation Success Rate was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately measure the academic success of Division I student-athletes.

The four-year GSR scores (percentage) for WVU’s varsity sports teams (2002-03 to 2005-06): baseball 64; men’s basketball 100; football 79; men’s soccer 77; men’s swimming 77; wrestling 83; women’s basketball 86; women’s cross country/track 100; rowing 64; gymnastics 85; women’s soccer 88; women’s swimming 96; women’s tennis 100; volleyball 100; and rifle 75.
