RADFORD NOTES

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team opens a seven-game non-conference home stand against Radford, Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.

West Virginia (5-1) is fresh off a Nugget Classic championship, in Reno, Nev., after defeating Iowa (69-66) and Nevada (66-41), and for its efforts garnered seven votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.

Freshman center Asya Bussie earned tournament MVP honors for efforts in the Nugget Classic, after tallying career-bests of 16 points, 12 rebounds and four steals in the title contest against the host Wolfpack. For the season, Bussie is averaging 13 points, second-most on the team, and seven rebounds per contest.

Junior guard Liz Repella leads the team with a 15.5 points per game average while junior guard/forward Korinne Campbell leads the squad and is third in the BIG EAST in rebounding average at 9.8 rebounds per game. Junior guard Sarah Miles, named to the Nugget Classic all-tournament team, leads the BIG EAST with a 6.3 assists per game average.

Radford (0-4) will be meeting West Virginia for the first time in school history. The Highlanders show losses on the year to William & Mary, Mount St. Mary’s, Virginia Tech and Howard. Forward Kymesha Alston leads the squad with 11.8 points per contest.

The contest will be broadcast on MSN women’s basketball affiliated stations with play-by-play announcer Travis Jones and color commentator Jay Jacobs on the call.
