MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Ed Pastilong announced today the 2009-10 women’s basketball non-conference schedule.
WVU will play at least 12 non-conference contests and will play one home exhibition contest, against Glenville State, on Sunday, Nov. 8.
WVU will open its non-conference slate against Towson on Friday, Nov. 13, in the opening round of the preseason WNIT. The Mountaineers will play at Duquesne on Tuesday, Nov. 24, and then head to Reno, Nev., to compete in the Nugget Classic Nov. 27-28. West Virginia will take on Iowa in opening round action and in either consolation or championship play Columbia or host Nevada. WVU will also take on Marshall, in Charleston, in the annual Capital Classic.
“We’re very excited to be in the Preseason WNIT,” coach Mike Carey says. “It’ll be a big challenge for all of our new players as well as those coming back off injury, which will be good for us. It will also be good to be at home for so many home games. We have no seniors on this year’s team, so we hope all these home games will build confidence for our young team as we prepare for BIG EAST play.”
The BIG EAST portion of the schedule and game times will be announced in September. The WVU women’s basketball non-conference schedule is as follows:
