BOSTON, Mass. – True freshman Chelsea Carrier won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.46 seconds Sunday at the 2008 ECAC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.

West Virginia, as a team, finished 13th with 22 points. UConn claimed the meet title with 60.50 points.

Carrier’s time was the fourth-best in school history and the Buckhannon, W.Va., native gave WVU a repeat title in the 60-meter hurdles. Last year, Jessica Czaikowski won the event with a time of 8.36.

West Virginia’s distance medley relay (DMR) barely placed second behind Penn with a time of 11:13.14. Penn crossed in 11.11.90 to take the event title.

“I’m optimistic that our DMR will qualify for NCAAs,” Head Coach Sean Cleary says. “I feel we ran a good enough time to get us there. Chelsea had a wonderful end to her first collegiate indoor season. For a freshman to win an ECAC title, that's a remarkable accomplishment.”

Clara Grandt took fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 9:36.71, while Morgantown native Ahna Lewis finished 19th with a time of 10:02.48.

Kristen Loughry placed 18th in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.55 meters.

Carrier ran a 8.54-second time in the 60-meter hurdles semifinals to highlight WVU’s day one performances. Carrier’s time ranked third in the semifinals after she had already posted the top preliminary time (8.60).

WVU’s Katelyn Williams took 10th in the high jump, clearing 1.70 meters, while Natasha Redman tied for 11th at 1.65m. Senior Alexis Noel placed 16th in the long jump with a leap of 5.31m.
