BIG EAST Volleyball
Since joining the Big East in 1996, Mountaineer players, coaches and fans alike have come to expect nothing but the best competition from the tradition-rich, talent-laden BIG EAST conference.
When West Virginia faces any of its 15 conference opponents, it knows it is in for a battle against some of the nation’s toughest competition.
Players coming into the Mountaineer program can expect to play against some of the best athletes in the country and in some of the nation’s finest facilities. It’s easy to see why the BIG EAST has been one of the NCAA’s best conferences in the last decade.
Here are a few of the reasons why the BIG EAST is considered one of the nation’s premiere conferences by many:
Notre Dame, Louisville and St. John's earned NCAA tournament berths in 2006.
Notre Dame and Louisville both reached the NCAA tournament regional semifinals in 2005.
Seven different BIG EAST programs have qualified for NCAA tournament play since 1997.
The BIG EAST has had multiple NCAA tournament participants in each of the last five seasons.
Eight Big East performers were named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) honorable mention All-Americans, exceeding last year's total of six.

The WVU Department of Intercolleigate Athletics is committed to the promotion of the academic achievement of student-athletes as well as their athletic accomplishment and their personal and career development.

Department staff members work with coaches, on campus student service providers and faculty to help student-athletes meet the unique demands of the classroom, the sporting arena and the personal-social challenges they face as developing adults.
Academics have been at the forefront of the success
enjoyed by the Mountaineer volleyball program. While
many of the headlines center on the Mountaineers’ accomplishments on the court, West Virginia athletes have also made some noteworthy strides in the classroom.
WVU COLISEUM
Opened in 1970, the WVU Coliseum is the home of men’s and women’s basketball as well as volleyball. It also serves as the site of competition for the gymnastics and wrestling programs.
Whether it is during the day, when the sun shines down on the massive structure, or at night when its golden lights make it an evening showcase, the WVU Coliseum stands as one of the most striking facilities on the WVU campus and played a major role in the expansion of the area known as the Evansdale Campus.
In 1971, the WVU Coliseum received a major architectural design award from the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Concrete Institute for being the "Outstanding Concrete Structure of the Year."
The 14,000 seat arena was recently renovated, providing the finest locker room, training and weight lifting amenities. In 2005, the Coliseum Club area was opened, providing a lounge, concessions, hospitality areas and lavish, relaxed seating areas that include
leather couches and chairs, bar stools and televisions.
Upgrades that took place in 2004:
Renovation to the men's, women's and volleyball locker rooms
Construction of a players' lounge and team video theater
Expansion of the equipment room and training room
Refurbishment of the Coliseum roof
Construction of a club seating area in the main arena, complete with private space for concessions, hospitality areas and rest rooms under the lower level seats
Expansion of the Coliseum weight training facility
Plans are in place to replace the scoreboard with a state-of-the-art video board and message center which also includes new lights and a sound system for the 2008-09 season.
