Baseball: WVU Smacks 6 HRs in Win

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – West Virginia pounded out 17 hits and six home runs to defeat Stony Brook, 20-2 Saturday night at Bowen Field in Bluefield, W.Va.

West Virginia moved the series to Bluefield because of poor playing conditions in Morgantown.

Junior Kurtis Clinton drilled two long home runs and drove in six runs to lead the Mountaineers, now 4-4. West Virginia also got home runs from Jarod Rine, Derek Cisar, Jake Serfass and Grant Psomas.

Rine had three hits and an RBI. Psmoas scored four runs.

Sophomore Zac Cline pitched seven innings, giving up two earned runs on seven hits with three strike outs and two walks. He improves to 2-1 on the season.

It was Stony Brook’s (0-1) first game of the season.

The two teams will wrap up the three game series Sunday starting with a seven-inning game at noon followed by a nine-inning contest.

WWVU FM-92 will carry both games live on the Internet and the broadcast can be accessed the Baseball Live Event schedule on the main page.
