MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Sophomore Chelsea Carrier finished fifth today in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.32 to qualify for the NCAA Championships as the West Virginia University track and field team concluded the final day of the NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championship at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
Carrier is the third Mountaineer to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
In the 1,500-meter final, Karly Hamric finished ninth (4:28.60), while Alison Spiker took 19th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:51.30.
Natasha Redman tied for 11th-place in the high jump event after clearing 1.70-meters.
“We brought 11 student-athletes to the meet and 10 significantly exceeded their NCAA ranking; that is something special,” commented Coach Sean Cleary. “We will take this and set it as the minimum standard for next year’s performances. We are looking forward to the NCAA Championships.”
Next up, the Mountaineers will compete at the NCAA Championships on June 10-13, in Fayetteville, Ark. Marie-Louise Asselin and Clara Grandt have qualified to race in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter events, while Carrier will compete in the 100-meter hurdle race.
